Participation Guidelines for Performática 2011

Presentation

Performática: Foro Internacional de Danza Contemporánea y Artes de Movimiento will take place from April 25th to May 1st, 2011.The event will be lodged in the Fundación Universidad de las Américas Puebla, and surrounding areas in the city of Cholula, Puebla, México.

Performática 2011: Replanteando Prácticas* has three main areas of activity: Workshop, Performance, and Laboratory. This year we are focusing more on the educational and investigative aspects of the forum and less on the production aspect. The goal of this year’s forum is the facilitation of engaged dialogue and collaboration between artists of all media with an interest in reflecting on the basic importance of their relationship to the movement arts.

*Replantear (Español meaning - move again to an open location)

  • In what way can it be useful and necessary for us to come together?
  • What kinds of activities do we need/want to engage in with one another?
  • How might we build on the presence of peers and colleagues from other cultures and with differing perspectives in order to nourish and enrich our own efforts and dreams?
About the ways in which you may participate in Performática 2011

While in the past we’ve had a rolling participation policy in the event, this year we must limit participation for workshops and laboratories due to space and safety concerns, as well as to support the depth of interaction, and encourage a richer exchange in this year's event. To participate in labs and workshops you must apply for a space and be selected, before you will be able to register. We acknowledge that this idea may seem exclusive, but we are choosing this approach in order to conserve diversity and address the above mentioned concerns. We are hoping to gather a varied group embodying different histories with the movement arts, general aesthetic interests, and socio-cultural backgrounds.

Participation in Performática is free for everyone, never-the-less, this year's edition has a limited number of spaces for participants in workshops and labs. Because of these limitations, there exist two modes in which you can participate in Performática 2011:

1) As a participant in workshops and laboratories, which implies a process of application and selection before you can register in them;

2) Attending performances, talks, parties, and gatherings which don not require a previous application. (For more information on performances and schedules please check back for the final programming calendar at the end of March).

About Participation in Workshops and Laboratories

The application to participate in workshops and labs, implies that you are committed to attend the entire event April 25th through May 1, 2011. Once selected you may register for available spots in classes and laboratories. You may register in 10 workshops (2 daily), which are in the morning. As well, you may register in 4 labs (each one with a duration of three days during the week), which are in the afternoons.

Workshops and Labs are structured in 4 blocks. 2 workshop blocks in the morning and 2 lab blocks in the afternoon. You will register in 1 workshop per block and 1 lab per block. In regards to the labs – each one will meet three days during the week, you are expected to attend the three sessions per lab. Workshops and Labs will be co-facilitated by 32 guest artists from USA, Brasil, Mexico, Holland, Italy, Ireland and UK. These artists were selected through an application process which took place from September thru December 2010.

Conditions for Participation

In years past we have had a more flexible policy regarding assistance but for this year’s event we are framing the requirements a bit differently. In order to optimize the potential of the gathering, to participate in the labs and workshops of Performática 2011 applicants must be able to commit to attending the entire forum (7 days and 6 nights. Monday morning through-Sunday afternoon).

For participants who are selected we offer:

    • Learning and Performance Opportunities

    • A supportive environment for formal and informal exchange

What We Cannot Offer

Should you have any questions about matters relating to your participation - please get in touch with the Performática team though the contact page.
